Linoleum installment steps

PVC linoleum is the common name for PVC carpet. The PVC flooring is more and more used, being both useful and aesthetic. The linoleum is often preferred instead of wood flooring or tiles, especially in professional spaces: medical, industrial, commercial, or technical units.

A correct installment of linoleum offers a high life span of the material and can bring, besides the utility of easy maintenance, special design effects. For the installment of linoleum are needed several materials, such as: a special acrylic primer, a cement-based self-leveling blanket for correcting level differences and smoothness of the support, an acrylic adhesive without solvents for sticking the linoleum, and a contact adhesive for sticking the plinths.

The steps of linoleum installment are as following:

  • Getting the surface ready through brooming and washing with water;
  • Priming the self-leveling blanket (the primer can be applied with the help of a soft paint roller);
  • Preparing the self-leveling blanket according to the manufacturer’s specifications;
  • Casting the self-leveling blanket so that the support is perfectly plane and according to the requirements of installing linoleum;
  • Uniform spreading of the blanket on the entire surface;
  • Eliminating air bubbles with the help of a spiked roller;
  • Finishing the self-leveling blanket by spreading it with a palette knife;
  • Waiting for the maturing time to pass, according to the manufacturer’s specifications;
  • For sticking of the linoleum will be used: adhesive, pressing roller, sponge for eliminating air bubbles, metallic profile for eliminating air bubbles, and a jagged palette knife;
  • For installing linoleum, two types of profiles are used: a semi-cylindrical profile and a closing profile;
  • The sticking of linoleum is made very simple through the cutting of linoleum stripes according to the enclosure’s configuration;
  • The adhesive application on the support surface, and then the sticking of the linoleum through pressing;
  • The utilization of a sponge to take out all the air between the linoleum and support bed;
  • The installment of the semi-cylindrical and closing profiles.

The linoleum is elastic, easy to put in soffit, eliminating this way the straight angles. This is why it is the ideal solution for maintaining the hygiene. The linoleum is a material that is malleable during the installment process, the only increased attention should be given to preparing the support, because it will take all the unevenness from the support bed. Because of this reason, for a correct linoleum installment, it is recommended the use of self-leveling blanket as support.

The linoleum or PVC carpet will not allow water vapors to pass through, and the blanket on which it will be installed on should not exceed a certain moisture level. If this aspect is not done right, air bumps can appear underneath it due to condensation, leading to the deterioration of the PVC carpet in time.

If you wish to enjoy a life span as long as possible for this type of flooring, it is highly recommended to respect all the specified installment steps.

PVC bottom coverings have antibacterial, anti-slip, antistatic, phonic and thermal isolation, and conductive properties. Therefore, they are recommended for hospitals, salons, surgical rooms, medical clinics, offices, conference rooms, commercial spaces, restaurants, hotels, boarding houses and even transportation means. A high-traffic linoleum is durable, highly resistant to wear, traffic and chemical agents, without having joints where dirt can accumulate in time.

The linoleum is a warm flooring that meets every request, being found in a large variety of colors and patterns.
